Two identical capacitors eachof capacitance C are charged to the same potential V and are connected in two circuits (i) and (ii) at t=0 as shown. The charges on the capacitor at t=CR are

A

`(CV)/e,(CV)/e`

B

CV, CV

C

`(VC)/e,VC`

D

`VC,(VC)/e`

The correct Answer is:
C

In figure(i) the p-n junction diode is forward biased and representation a very low resistance, the capacitor a very low resistance, the capacitor, therefore discharge itself through resistor R according to relation,
`q= q_(0)e^(-1//CR))` and `q_(0) = CV` at t = CR
`therefore` `q=q_(0)e^(-1) = (CV)/e)`
In figure, (ii), the p-n junction diode is reverse biased, the capacitor therefore holds the charge intact.
`q=q_(0) = CV`
