Define RMS speed....

Define RMS speed.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

RMS speed is defined as the square root of the mean of the square of speeds of all molecules.
i.e. `v_(rms)=sqrtbar(v^(2))`
`therefore v_(rms)=sqrt((3kT)/(m))`
RMS speed is the measure of the speed of particles in a gas which is most convenient for problem solving within the kinetic theory of gases.
