A spring compressed by 10 cm develops a restoring force of 10 N.A body of mass 9 kg is placed on it . What is the force constant of the spring ? What is the depression in the spring under the weight of the body? What is the period of oscillation if the body is disturbed from its equilibrium position?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`F=10N, y = 10cm =0.1m`
Force constant , `k=(F)/(y)=(10)/(0.1)=100N/m`
Further, when F = weight of the body
= `" "=9kg wt +=90N`
`y=F/k=(90)/(100)=0.9m`
Time period , T `=2pi(sqrt(m))/(k)`
`=2pi(sqrt(9))/(100)s=2pi((3)/(10))s`
