Water boils in an electric kettle in 15 ...

Water boils in an electric kettle in 15 mins, after switching on. If the length of the heating wire is decreased to `(1)/(3)` of its initial value ,then in how much time will the same amount of water boil with the same supplyvoltage ?

Supply Voltage is same
Amount of heat produced is also same
Time taken to heat water t = 15min
`H = (V^(2))/("R") .t [H = I^(2)Rt implies (V = IR) therefore I = (V)/("R") ]`
`therefore (R_(1))/(R_(2)) = (t_(1))/(t_(2))`
`R prop l [R = rho(l)/(A)]`
`(R_(1))/(R_(2)) = (l_(1))/(l_(2))`
From (1) and (2)
`(l_(1))/(l_(2)) = (t_(1))/(t_(2)) = (15)/(t_(2))`
`l_(2) = (1)/(3)l_(1) implies (l_(1))/(l_(2)) = 3`
sub in (3) 3 =`(15)/(t_(2))`
`therefore t_(2) = (15)/(3) = 5 `min
Time taken to heat `(1)/(3)` length of the wire = 5 min

Two wires are made of the same material and have the same volume. The area of cross sections of the first and the second wires are A and 2A respectively. If the length of the first wire is increased by Delta l on applying a force F, how much force is needed to stretch the second wire by the same amount ?

Figure shows two vessels with adiabatic walls, one containing 0.1 g of helium (gamma =1.67 , M = 4 g mol^(-1)) and the other containing some amount of hydrogen (gamma = 1.4, M = 2 g mol^(-1)) . Initially , the temperatures of the two gases are equal. The gases electrically heated for some time during which equal amounts of heat are given to the gases. It is found that the temperatures rise through the same amount in the two vessels. Calculate the mass of hydrogen.

A and B are two separate reservoirs of water. Capacity of reservoir A is double the capacity of reservoir Bdot Both the reservoirs are filled completely with water, their inlets are closed and then the water is released simultaneously from both the reservoirs. The rate of flow of water out of each reservoir at any instant of time is proportional to the quantity of water in the reservoir at the time. One hour after the water is released, the quantity of water is reservoir A is 1 1/2 times the quantity of water in reservoir Bdot After how many hours do both the reservoirs have the same quantity of water?
