A glass rod has radius `0.5xx10^(-2)m` and is 0.1 m long. If density of glass `=2190kgm^(-3)`, Young's Modulus `Y=6.5xx10^(10)Nm^(-2)` and breaking stress `=5xx10^(7)Nm^(-2)`, then find the maximum load that can supported by the hanging glass rod (without breaking the rod).

`r=5xx10^(-3)m, l=0.1m, Y=6.5xx10^(10)Nm^(-2)`
Breaking stress `P=5xx10^(7)Nm^(-2)`
By definition, stress `=("Force")/("Area")` (where area `=pi r^(2)`)
i.e. Force `=` (Stress) (Area)
or `m=(PA)/g=(5xx10^(7)xx3.142xx(5xx10^(-3))^(2))/9.8`
`m=40.08xx10^(1)" "m=400.8kg`
The load that can be supported `=400.8xx9.8=3.928xx10^(3)N`
