From top of a huilding a ball is dropped while another is frpjected horizontally at the same tme . (a) Which ball will strike the ground first ? (b) Which ball will strike the ground with more speed.

Text Solution

Both the balls will react the ground simultaneously as horizontal velocity does not affect the vertical motion.
i.e., `t_(1) = t_(2) = sqrt((2h//g))`
[However, for the ball dropped vertically `v_(1) = sqrt((2gh))` while for the ball projected horizontally.
`(v_(H))_(2) = u` and `(v_(v))_(2) = sqrt((2gh))` so that `v_(2) = sqrt((u^(2) + 2gh))` i.e., on hitting the ground speed of horizontally porjected all will be more than the ball dropped vertically]
