Knowing the properties of H(2)O and D(2)...

Knowing the properties of `H_(2)O` and `D_(2)O`, do you think that `D_(2)O` can be used for drinking purpose?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Heavy water `(D_(2)O)` acts as a moderator, i.e., it slows the rate of a reaction. Due to this property of `D_(2)O`, it cannot be used for drinking purposes because it will slow down anabolic and catabolic reactions taking place in the body and lead to a casualty.
