the following process are in the extraction of zinc blende :
(i) concentration : Zinc blende ore is crushed and the concentration done by froth - floatation process .
(ii) Rosating , the concentrated ore is then rosted in presence of excess of air at abount 1200 K as a result zinc oxide is formed .
`underset( "Zinc blende ") 2ZnS +3O_(2) overset(Delta) to underset( "Zinc oxide") 2 ZnO +2SO_(2) `
(iii) Reducation : Zinc oxide obtained above is mixed with powdered coke and heated to 1673 K in fire clay retort where it is reduced ' to Zinc metal.
`ZnO +C overset( 1673 K) to An +CO`
At 1673 K, Zinc metal volatile (boiling point 1180 k ) distills over and is condensed.
(iv) Electrolytic refining :impure zinc is made the anode zinc strip is mode the cathode `ZnSO_(4)` solution acidified with dil . `H_(2)SO_(4)` is the electolyte used .On passing electric current ,pure zinc gets deposited on the cathode.
