the equations for the formation of the two oxides are
`4//3 Al(S) to 2//3 Al_(2) O_(3)(s)`
`2Mg (S) +O_(2) (S) to 2MgO(s) `
if we lock at the plots for the formation of the two oxides of the Ellingham diaram we find that they intersect at certain point , the corresponding value `Delta G^(@)` becomes zero for the reducaation of Mg O by Al metal
`2mg O(s) +4//3Al (s) hArr 2 mg (s) +2//3 Al_(2)O_(3) (s) `
this means that the resucaation of Mg O by Al metal can occur below this temparature because `Delta ^(@)G` for`Al_(2)O_(3)` ios less as comared to that of MgO
`3Mg(s) +2Al(s) overset((gt1665K))to Al_(2)O_(3)(s) + 3Mg (s) `
