The constant `gamma` for oxygen as well as for hydrogen is 1.40. If the speed of sound in oxygen is `450 m//s` , what will be the speed of hydrogen at the same temperature and pressure?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

` v = sqrt((gamma RT)/(M))`
since temperature, T is constant
`:. (v_(H_2))/(v_(o_(2)))= sqrt((M_(o_(2)))/(M_(H_(2)))) = sqrt((32)/(2))=4`
` v(H_(2)) = 4 xx 450 = 180 m//s `
