The moment of inertia of a sphere is 40 ...

The moment of inertia of a sphere is 40 kg-`m^2` about its diametric axis. Determine the moment of inertia about any tangent.

Text Solution

Given that `2/5 "MR"^2 = 40 rArr "MR"^2 = 100 kg - m^2`
By theorem of parallel axes,
`I I_(CM) + MR^2 = 2/5 MR^2 + MR^2 = 7/5 MR^2`
`= 7/5 xx100 =140 kg-m^2`
