Determine the point of application of force, when forces are acting on the rod as shown in figure.[here 10N force make 37° with horizontal]

Text Solution

Since the body is in equillibrium so we conclude `vec F net = 0` and torque about any point is zero i.e.,
`vectaru net = 0`

Let us assume that we apply F force downward at A angle  from the horizontal, at x distance from B
From `vec F net =0`
`rArr " "F _("net") x = 0` which gives
` F_2 = 8 N`
From `F_("net y") = 0 rArr 5 + 6 = F_1 + 3`
`rArr " "F_1 = 8 N`
If body is in equillibrium then torque about point B is zero.
`rArr " "3 xx 5 + F_1 x-5 xx10=0`
`rArr" "15 + 18 x - 50 = 0`
` x = 35/9 `
