The temperature of a gas rises during an adiabatic compression, although no heat is given to the gas from outside. Why?

By first law of thermodynamics, `Delta Q = Delta U+ Delta W`. For an adiabatic compression, `Delta Q = 0` so `Delta U = - Delta W`. That is work is done on the gas which increases its internal energy. Hence temperature of the gas rises.
