The number of alpha and beta particles, ...

The number of `alpha` and `beta` particles, respectiyely, emitted in the radioactive decay `""_(90)X^(200) to _(80)Y^(168)` are,

A

`8alpha and 8beta`

B

`6alpha and 8beta`

C

`8alpha and 6beta`

D

`6alpha and 6beta`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`""_(90)X^(200) to n_(2)He^(4) + m_(-1)Beta^(0) + _(80)Y^(168)`
`:. 200 = 4n +168`
`n = (200 - 168)/4 = 8`
Similarly,
90 = 2n - m +80
m = 16 + 80 - 90 = 6
`alpha = 8 and Beta = 6`
