The value of DeltaH for the given reacti...

The value of `DeltaH` for the given reaction at 298K is -282.85`kJ*mol^(-1)`. Calculate the change in intenral energy: `CO(g)+(1)/(2)O_(2)(g) to CO_(2)(g)`.

Text Solution

We know, `DeltaH=DeltaU+DeltanRT` where, `Deltan`=(total number of moles of the gaseous products)-(total number of moles of the gaseous reactants)
For the given reaction, `Deltan=1-(1+(1)/(2))=-(1)/(2)`
As per given data, `DeltaH=-282.85kJ*mol^(-1) & T=298K`
`therefore -282.85=DeltaU+[(-(1)/(2))xx8.314xx10^(-3)xx298]`
`therefore DeltaU=-281.61kJ*mol^(-1)`.
