Above what temperature the following reaction will be spontaneous? `2CuO(s)toCu_(2)O(s)+(1)/(2)O_(2)(g)`. Given, `DeltaH=144.6kJ and DeltaS=0.116kJ*K^(-1)` for the process.

We know, `DeltaG=DeltaH-TDeltaS`. A reaction at a given temperature and pressure is spontaneous if `DeltaG lt0` for the reaction. Therefore, at a given pressure and a temperature of TK, the reaction will be spontaneous if-
`Delta G lt0 or, DeltaH-TDeltaS lt0" "therefore TDeltaS gt DeltaH or, T gt (DeltaH)/(DeltaS)`
Given that, `DeltaH=144.6kJ and DeltaS=0.116kJ*K^(-1)`
`therefore T gt(144.6)/(0.116)or, T gt 1246.55K`
So, the reaction will be spontaneous above 1246.55 K.
