Explain the effect of (a) pressure and (...

Explain the effect of (a) pressure and (b) continuous removal of HI at constant temperature on the position of equilibrium of the following reaction: `H_(2)(g)+I_(2)(g)hArr2HI(g)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) Pressure does not have any effect on the position of the equilibrium becaues the reaction is not associated with any volume change [Total no. of molecules of HI(g)=total no. of molecules of `H_(2)(g) and I_(2)(g)`], (b) If HI is removed continuously from the reaction system, then the equilibrium goes on shifting towards right, and finally the reaction moves towards completion.
