Why is the ionic product of water at `50^(@)C` greater than that at `25^(@)C`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ionisation of water `[2H_(2)O(l)hArrH_(3)O^(+)(aq)+OH^(-)(aq)]` is an endothermic process, the equilibrium constant refering to ionisation equilibrium of water is called the ionic product of water `(K_(w))`. As the process is endothermic, `K_(w)` increases with rise in temperature. thus, `K_(w)` of water at `50^(@)C` is greater than that at `25^(@)C`.
