pH of a buffer solution composed of NH(3...

pH of a buffer solution composed of `NH_(3) and NH_(4)Cl` is 9.26. will there be any change in pH if 100 mL of distilled water is added to 100 mL of this buffer solution?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For the buffer solution made up of `NH_(3) and NH_(4)Cl`. pH of the solution is given by `pH=14-pK_(a)-"log"([NH_(4)Cl])/([NH_(3)])`
If 100 mL of distilled water is added to 100 mL of this buffer solution, no change occurs in the ratio of `[NH_(4)Cl]` to `[NH_(3)]` and pH of the solution remains the same.
