In case of thermal decomposition of H(2)...

In case of thermal decomposition of `H_(2)(g) ` to `H(g)`, which conditions of pressure and temperature will be favourable for an increase in the yield of H(g)?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since the formation of H(g) from `H_(2)(g)` `[H_(2)(g)hArr 2H(g)]` occurs through decomposition, it is an endothermic reaction. Because 2 moles of H(g) are formed from 1 mole of `H_(2)(g)`, the reaction is associated with an increases in volume. So, according to Le Chatelier's principle, the yield of H(g) will increase if the reaction is carried out at a high temperature and low pressure.
