At `25^(@)C`, the ionisation constant `(K_(a))` of weak acid HA is `10^(-6)`. What will the value of ionisationn constant `(K_(b))` of its conjugate base `(A^(-))` be at that temperature ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know, `K_(a) xx K_(b)=10^(-14)[at" "25^(@)C]." "K_(a)` of `HA=10^(-6)`
Therefore, `K_(b)` of `A^(-)=(10^(-14))/(K_(a))=(10^(-14))/(10^(-6))=10^(-8)`.
