If equal volumes of 0.02(M) CaCl2 and 0....

If equal volumes of 0.02(M) `CaCl_2` and 0.0003(M) `Na_2SO_4` solutions are mixed, will `CaSO_4` be precipitated ? [Given : `K_(sp)(CaSO_4)=2.4xx10^(-15)`]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In the mixture : `[Ca^(2+)]=1/2xx0.02=0.01(M)`
and `[SO_4^(2-)]=1/2xx0.0003=1.5xx10^(-4)(M)`
`:.[Ca^(2+)][SO_4^(2-)]=10^(-2)xx1.5xx10^(-4)=1.5xx10^(-6)`
This value is less than `K_(sp)` of `CaSO_4`. So, no precipitation will occur.
