Both dihydrogen and carbon monoxide burn...

Both dihydrogen and carbon monoxide burn in air with blue flame. How will you distinguish between them?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Dihydrogen burns with a blue flame in air to form water vapour which turns white anhydrous CuS`O_(4)` into hydrated copper sulphate (CuS`O_(4)cdot 5H_(2)O`) . However, carbon monoxide on combustion forms `CO_(2)` which does not bring about any change in Cu`SO_(4)`.
