How will you prove that hypophoshporus acid `(H_(3)PO_(2))` is a monobasic acid?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When `H_(3)PO_(3)` is treated with `D_(2)`O. only one of its hydrogen atoms is replaced by D. So, it can be said that only one H-atom remains attached to O-atom in hypophosphorous acid `(H_(3)PO_(2))`. Therefore, it is a monobasic acid.
