`Na_(2)O_(2)` reacts with `CO_(2)` of air to evolve `O_(2) (2Na_(2)O_(2) + 2CO_(2) rarr 2Na_(2)CO_(3) + O_(2) uarr)`. For this reason, `Na_(2)O_(2)` is used for the purification of air in submarines and in crowded places.
