Compare the structures of `H_(2)O and H_(2)O_(2)`.

The oxygen atom in water is `sp^(3)`-hybridised. The two O-H bonds are `sp^(3)` -s sigma bonds. The H-O-H bond angle is `104.5^(@)`. This value is little less than the tetrahedral angle (`109^(@)`28') because of stronger lone pair-lone pair and lone pair-bond pair repulsions than bond pair-bond pair repulsion. thus, water is a bent molecule. each oxygen atom in `H_(2)O_(2)` is also `sp^(3)` hybridised. The O-O bond is an `sp^(3) - sp^(3)` sigma bond and the two O-H bonds are `sp^(3) - s` sigma bonds. The two O-H bonds are, however, present in different planes. In the gas phase, the dihedral angle between the two planes (i.e., the planes containing H-O-O system) is `111.5^(@)`. So, the molecule has open-book like structure.
