Drinking heavy water (`D_(2)O`) is harmful for the human beings. Heavy water being highly hygroscopic, absorbs water from different parts of the body. As a result, the body cells may get destroyed. Apart from this, heavy water slows down different biochemical reactions such as mitosis, cell division etc.
