Which of the following statement is false

A

hydrogen has three isotopes of which tritium is the most common

B

hydrogen never acts as cation in ionic salts

C

hydronium ion, `H_(3)O^(oplus)` exists freely in solution

D

dihydrogen does not act as a reducing agent

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Among three isotopes of hydrogen protium `(""_(1)H^(1))`, deuterium `(""_(1)H^(2))` and tritium `(""_(1)H^(3))`, normal hydrogen is protium. Among these three, tritium is radioactive and unstable for which it is negligible in amount. In aqueous solution, metal is reduced by dihydrogen. Again, metallic oxide is also reduced by dihydrogen to free metal.
