Compound containing two dissimilar asymmetric carbon atoms is 3 - bromobutan - 2 - ol `(CH_(3)CHOHCHBrCH_(3))`. Compound may have `2^(n)` ( n = no. of dissimilar asymmetric carbon atom) = `2^(2) = 4` possible stereoisomers. Fischer projection formulas of these isomers are as follow :
(##CHY_CHE_ORG_XI_P2_U12_E01_080_S01.png" width="80%">
All the isomers are optically active
The relations among the isomers are as follow: (I,II) and (III,IV) are two pair of enantiomers whereas (I,III), (I,IV), (II,III) and (II,IV) are four pairs of diastereomer.

Name a compound having two similar asymmetric carbon atoms and give its structure. What type of isomerism does it exhibit? Draw Fischer projection formulas of these isomers and comment on their optical activity. How are they related to each other?

Draw the Fischer projection formulas of all stereoisomers of CH_(3)CHBrCHCICOOH . Mention how they are related to each other.

Compound 'A' with molecular formula C_(4)H_(9)Br is treated with aq.KOH solution. The rate of this reaction depends upon the concentration of the compound 'A' only. When another optically active isomer 'B' of this compound was treated with aq. KOH solution, the rate of reaction was found to be dependent on concentration of compound and KOH both. (i) Write down the structural formula of both compounds 'A' and 'B'. (ii) Out of these two compounds, which one will be converted to the product with inverted configuration.

CoSO_(4)Cl.5NH_(3) exists in two isomeric forms 'A' and 'B'. Isomer 'A' reacts with AgNO_(3) to give white precipitate, but does not react with BaCl_(2) . Isomer 'B' gives white precipitate with BaCl_(2) but does not react with AgNO_(3) . Answer the following questions. (i) Identify 'A' & 'B' and write their structural formulas. (ii) Name the type of isomerism involved. (iii) Give the IUPAC name of 'A' and 'B'.
