Can you separate two liquids A (b. p. 413K) and B (b. p. 403K) present in a mixture by simple distillation?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The two components cannot be separated by simple by simple distillation. This is because the vapours of both the liquids will be formed. Simultaneously and will condence together in the receiver. The separation of these two liquids can be done by fractional distillation.

Explain: (1) A mixture of ether and water can be separated by simple distillation. (2) Water present in rectified spirit can be removed by azeotropic distillation. (3) Benzoic acid can be extarced from its aqueous solution using benzene. (4) Sugar containing NaCI as impurity can be purified by crystallisation using ethanol but not water. '

A liquid A is treated with Na_(2)CO_(3) solution. A mixture of two salts B and C are produced in the solution. The mixture on acidification with H_(2)SO_(4) and distillation produces the liquid A again. Identify A, B and C and write the equations involved.

The coordinates of the point A and B are (a,0) and (-a ,0), respectively. If a point P moves so that P A^2-P B^2=2k^2, when k is constant, then find the equation to the locus of the point Pdot

Two liquids A and B form an ideal solution. What is the vapour pressure of solution containing 2 moles of A and 3 moles of B at 300 K? [Given : At 300 K, vapour pressure of pure liquid A (p _A^0) = 100 torr and vapour pressure of pure liquid B (p _B^0) = 300 torr]
