(1) Meso - tartaric acid containing two asymmetric carbon atoms is optically incative inactive because it has a plane of symmetry, i.e., the molecule is superimposable on its mirror image.

(2) Penta - 2,3 - diene (an abC = C = Cab type of allene) is oprically active because it is not superimposable on its mirror image.
