Prove that benzene is insoluble in water and is lighter than water.

Benzene is taken in a separating flask and water is added to it. The mixture is shaken and then allowed to stand unitl two layers are separated. The upper layer contains benzene while water settles at the bottom. This observation proves that benzene is insoluble in water and is lighter than water.
