Why does benzene burn with a sooty flame ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As the carbon content in benzene molecule `(C_6H_6 C:H=1:1)` is relatively higher as compared to the saturated hydrocarbon, hexane `(C_6H_(14),C:H=1:2,3)` elementary carbon is formed during burning of benzene. So, benzene burns with a sooty flame.
