1 `C_5H_(12) and 2 C_8 H_(18)` are two alkanes which form one monochloride each on reacting with chlorine. Write the names of the alkanes and structural formulas of the chlorides.

As both the alkanes form one monochloride each ,it can be said that all H-atoms in these two alkanes are equivalent .
Therefore the alkane with molecular formula `C_5H_(12)` is `(CH_3)_4C` and the alkane with molecular formula `C_8H_(18)` is `(CH_3)_3C-C(CH_3)_3`.
`(CH_3)_4C(2,2-"dimethylpropane")overset(Cl_2)underset(hnu)to(CH_3)_3C""CH_2Cl`
`underset(2,2,3,3-"tetramethyl-butane")((CH_3)_3C-C(CH_3)_3)overset(Cl_2)underset(hnu)to(CH_3)_3C-C(CH_3)_2CH_2Cl`
