0.8898 of a metal is deposited at the cathode when a current of 1.5A is passed for 30 min through a solution containing a salt of the metal. If valency of the metal is 2, calculate its relative atomic mass.

Quantity of electricity `=1.5xx(30xx60)=2700C`.
2700 C of electricity deposit 0.8898 g of the metal at the cathode.
Thus, 1 F or 96500 C of electricity will deposit `(0.8898xx96500)/(2700)=31.802g` of the metal.
Since 1 F of electricity deposits 1 gram - equivalent ot a substance at an electrode, the equivalent mass of the metal = 31.802 g.
The relative atomic mass of an element = its valency `xx` equivalent mass
So, the relative atomic mass of the metal `=2xx31.802=63.604.`
