Why does . Mercury cell provide constant voltage ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The overall reaction for the mercury cell is ,
`Zn(s) + H_(g)O(s)toZnO(s)+Hg(l)`
The reaction does not involve any species whose concentrations may change overtime . As a result , the potential of the cell remains the same with time .
