The specific conductances of two electro...

The specific conductances of two electrolytes M and N are x and y `"ohm"^(-1)cm^(-1)` respectively , when measured in the same conductivity cell . If ` y gt x` , then which solution will offer a higher resistance against the flow of electricity .

`R = rho l/A or , 1/rho = 1/R (l/A) or , k = 1/R (l/A)`
Let , `y = k_(N) = 1/(R_(N))(l/A) ` and `x = k_(M)= 1/(R_(M))(l/A)`
If ` y gt x ` , then `k_(N) gt k_(M) ` and `1/(R_(N))(l/A) gt 1/(R_(M))(l/A)`
Since the same conductivity cell is used for the measurement of specific conductances of both the electrolytes , the value of `(l/A)` is the same in the both the cases .
Therefore , `R_(M)gtR_(N)` i.e ., resistance of M is greater than that of N
