Differentiate between electrophoresis & ...

Differentiate between electrophoresis & electrolysis.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In electrophoresis, colloidal particles move towards one of the electrodes (anode or cathode), depending on their charges. On the other hand, during electrolysis, the ions produced due to ionic dissociation of the electrolyte move towards both the cathode and the anode. In electrophoresis, colloidal particles are coagulated, while in electrolysis anions are oxidised at the anode and cations are reduced at the cathode to produce new substances.
