`PCl_(3)` fumes is moist air - explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In moist air `PCl_(3)` reacts with water to produce solid phosphorous acid `(H_(3)PO_(3))` and HCl. HCl gas combinses with aerial water vapour to produce very tiny particles of hydrochloric acid. This is why `PCl_(5)` fumes is moist air.
`PCl_(3) + 3H_(2)O to H_(3)PO_(3)+ 3HCl`
