Calculate the number of unpaired electro...

Calculate the number of unpaired electrons in the following gaseous ions : `Mn^(3+), Cr^(3+), V^(3+)` and `Ti^(3+)`. Which one is most stable in aqueous solution ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Second part : `Cr^(3+)` is most stable among the ions as in aqueous solution the d-orbital splits in such a way that the higher energetic `e_(g)`- orbital remain vacant and the most stable `t_(2g)` - orbital remain completely filled.
