Give reason : First ionisation enthalpies of 5d elements are higher than those of 3d and 4d elements.

For the elements in 5d series, 4f electrons present inside the molecules have very low screening effect. As a result of that, the outer electrons of these elements are bound strongly to the nucleus. Therefore more energy is required to remove the valence electrons and hence, they have comparatively high ionisation enthalpy than 3d or 4d transition elements.
