Platinum has a large size with vacant orbital which can form complexes with coordination number upto 6 while the size of nickel is small, and hence cannot hlold six ligands at a time. Thus, `K_(2)[PtCl_(6)]` is a well known compound whereas `K_(2)[NiCl_(6)]` in not known.
