The largest number of oxidation states are exhibited by the elements lying in the middle of the first row transition series. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The largest number of oxidation states will be shown by those elements in a transition series which maximum number of unpaired electrons. Obviously largest number of oxidation states are shown by the elements in the middle of the 1st transition series as they contain maximum number of unpaired electrons.
