What would be the value of paramagnetic ...

What would be the value of paramagnetic spin moment of `K_(3)[Fe(CN)_(6)]` ? (Atomic number of Fe 26)

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `K_(3)[Fe(CN)_(6)]`, oxidation state of Fe is + 3. Due to the presence of `CN^(-)` ion which is a strong field ligand, 5 unpaired electron in `Fe^(3+)` ion gets paired up. Thus, it has 1 unpaired electron.
`therefore` Spin moment `= sqrt(1(1+2))BM = sqrt(3)BM=1.732 BM`.
