The elements of 3d transition series are given as -
Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn.
Answer the following :
`Zn^(2+)` salts are colourless. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Zn exists only in the + 2 oxidation state in which 3d - subshell is completely filled with electrons `(Zn^(2+) : 3d^(10))`. So d - d transition is not possible and hence zinc salts are colourless.
