Give reason :
Iron has higher enthalpy of atomisation that of copper.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Iron being a transition element has unpaired electrons `(3d^(6)4s^(2))` and hence has a strong metallic bonding which is the reason of its higher enthalpy of atomisation. In contrast, Cu does not have any unpaired d - electron and hence has a weak metallic bonding.
