When `Cu^(2+)` ion is treated with KI, a white precipitate is formed. Explain the reaction with the help of chemical equation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to strong reducing character of `I^(-)`, it reduces `Cu^(2+)` to `Cu^(+)` and a white precipitate of `Cu_(2)I_(2)` is formed. The reaction equation is : `2Cu^(2+)+4I^(-)rarr Cu_(2)I_(2)darr`(white precipitate) `+I_(2)`.
