Interstitial compounds are formed when small atoms are trapped inside the crystal lattice of metals. Which of the following is not the characteristic property of interstitial compounds -

Binary compounds of various elements with hydrogen where hydrogen exhibit an oxidation number of (-1) are called binary hydrides. Nature of hydride obtained depends upon electronegativity of the element and hence on the type of bond formed Hydrides are mainly of three classes Ionic, saline or salt like hydrides. Covalent or Molecular hydrides. Metallic or interstitial hydrides. Which of the following is formed when LiH react with SO2?

In an ideal crystal, the entropy of the constituents at absolute zero temperature (0K) is zero. However, the crystals generally suffer from certain defects also called imperfections They may be both electronic and atomic in nature. The atomic imperfections may be stoichiometric (Schottky and Frenkel defects) or non-stoichiometric (metal excees and metal deficiency defects). In addition to these, there are impurity defects which are caused by the addition of certain impurities of metals and this is known as dopping. The dopping leads to semi conductors which may be either n-type or p-type in nature. In stoichiometric defects, the ratio of positive and negative ions as indicated by chemical formula of the compound:

In a compound, nitrogen atoms (N) make cubic close packed lattice and metal atoms (M) occupy one-third of the tetrahedral voids present. Determine the formula of the compound formed by M and N?

An organic compound [A], whose molecular formula is C_(3)H_(6)O , gives iodoform reaction and forms compound [B]. Compound [B], when heated with silver powder, converts into compound [C}. Compound [C] reacts with dil. Sulphuric acid and mercuric sulphate to obtain compound [D], which gives Aldol condensation reaction. Write down the names of all compounds from [A] to [D] and also write the chemical equations for each step.

An organic compound A(C_2H_6O) reacts with sodium to form compound B and hydrogen gas. When heated with conc. H_2SO_4 at 413 K, A produces C(C_4H_(10)O) . C on reaction with conc. HI at 373 K forms D. C is also obtained when B is heated with D. Identify A, B, C and D and write chemical equations for the formation of B from A and the formation of C from B and D.

A violet compound of manganese (A) decomposes on heating to liberate oxygen and componds (B) and (C ) of manganese are formed. Compound (C ) reacts with KOH in the presence of potassium nitrate to give compound (B). On heating compound (C ) with conc. H_(2)SO_(4) and NaCl, chlorine gas is liberated and a compound (D) of manganese along with other products is formed. Identify compounds (A)to (D) and also explain the reactions involved.

An organic compound A (C_2H_3N) is used as a solvent of choice for many organic reactions because it is not reactive in mild acidic and basic conditions. Compound A on treatment with Ni/ H_2 fo rms B. When B is treated with nitrous acid at 273K, ethanol is obtained. When B is warmed with chloroform and NaOH, a foul smelling compound C is formed. Identify A to C along with their structures and given reactions.
