Give evidence that [Co(NH(3))(5)Cl]SO(4)...

Give evidence that `[Co(NH_(3))_(5)Cl]SO_(4)` & `[Co(NH_(3))_(5)SO_(5)]Cl` are ionisation isomers.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let `A=[Co(NH_(3))_(5)Cl]SO_(4), B=[Co(NH_(3))_(5)SO_(4)]Cl`
Each compound is dissolved separately in water tested separately with `AgNO_(3)` (in presence of `HNO_(3)`) and `BaCl_(2)` (n presence of HCl) solutions. It is observed that compound 'A' does not give precipitate with `AgNO_(3)` solution but gives a white precipitate with `BaCl_(2)` solution indicating, that the complex contains `SO_(4)^(2-)` as counter ion. On the other hand, compound 'B' does not give any precipitate with `AgNO_(3)` solution, indicating that the complex contains `Cl^(-)` as the counter ion.
