What do you mean by macrocyclic effect in relation to the stability of coordination compounds?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Macrocyclic ligands, where multiple donor atoms are held in a cyclic array, such as crown ethers, give complexes of very high stability than might otherwise be expected for ordinary chelates. Such effect leading to extra stability of complexes is called macrocyclic effect.
